ABOUT US
The Philippines currently has one of the fastest-growing HIV epidemics worldwide and transwomen in the Philippines are acknowledged as a priority for developing interventions to support HIV testing, prevention, and linkage to services. This is because, globally, transwomen have a 49-times higher odds of HIV infection compared with the general population.
Project Lakambini is a research study being conducted by the University of the Philippines Manila and Emory University (USA), along with other partner institutions. Our objective is to examine the feasibility, acceptability, safety, and preliminary effects of a gender-affirmative and stigma-reduction intervention on HIV self-testing, linkage to HIV prevention or care services, behavioral risk reduction, and engagement in other health, social, or community services for transwomen.
Kween Cares is an initiative of Project Lakambini which aims to provide gender-affirmative interventions to counteract the impacts of gender-minority stigma and to support Filipina transgender women in HIV prevention, testing, and linkage to services.
